Godefroid Devreese (19 August 1861 – 31 August 1941) was a Belgian sculptor. He first studied with his father, then continued his studies at the academies in Kortrijk and Bruxelles from 1881 to 1886, having as teachers famous sculptors such as Eugène Simonis and Charles van der Stappen. He was one of Belgium’s most renowned medal designers, and he was also known for his sculptures, monuments and fountains in France and Belgium. He became a close friend of the architect Victor Horta, with whom he collaborated on various projects. Indeed, Victor Horta drew the plans for the workshop that Godefroid Devreese occupied in Schaerbeek and now bears his name, Rue Godefroid Devreese. In 1885 he won the Prix de Rome before turning entirely to medal art in 1890.
