Luba female Nkisi statue with the arms in relief, clearly charged with medicinal potions intended to entice the entry of spirits to the figure. The sculpture is created out of the bits and pieces of a person's or group's memory and experience: spikes in the top of the head, brushes in the ears, bundles of fetish material wrapped in reptilian skin about the chest , plaited fur band about the waist, and a beaded necklace about the neck. These items would accumulate over time until the sculpture acquire a power far greater than any of its parts. Nice dark brown patina.
