This fine, round, dark gray vessel depicts a complete figure which is rare.It was made by the Mangbetu People.The Mangbetu ethnic group lives deep in the center of Africa. They were famous for their hair styles and practiced Lipombo, the art of head elongation that denoted majesty and status. The people of this tribe produced a large variety of highly developed art.The smaller pots were used for more specific tasks such as cooking, cleaning, and pouring. Mangbetu pots are handmade out of clay and fired in its natural form in open fire.This pot dates to early 20th century.Dimensions: approx. 36X20X20 cm
