Zacharie Noterman or Zacharie Notermann or Zacharias Noterman, Ghent 1820 and Paris 1890, is a Belgian painter and engraver, specializing in the painting of antics, scenes of monkeys carrying out human activities, as well as in paintings of dogs.Son of Jean Noterman, painter-decorator, and Marie-Catherine Haelterman, he was trained by his older brother, Emmanuel Norterman, before continuing his studies at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Antwerp.
He lived for a time in Antwerp with his brother before settling in Paris.He specializes in humorous paintings depicting in particular monkeys dressed in costumes and practicing human activities (trades, hobbies and pleasures of the time, such as playing dice, music or smoking).He also produces paintings representing dogs and cats, as well as circus scenes and engravings presenting subjects similar to his paintings.During his career, he participated several times in the Salon of painting and sculpture in Paris.He died in Paris in 1890.

Zacharie Noterman (ou Notermann, Zacharias Noterman), Gand, 1820 – Paris, 1890 est un peintre et graveur belge, spécialisé dans les scènes animalières humoristiques, en particulier les “singes en action” — des représentations de singes imitant les activités humaines — ainsi que dans les peintures de chiens.Fils de Jean Noterman, peintre-décorateur, et de Marie-Catherine Haelterman, il reçut sa première formation auprès de son frère aîné Emmanuel Noterman, avant de poursuivre ses études à l’Académie royale des beaux-arts d’Anvers.Après avoir vécu quelque temps à Anvers auprès de son frère, il s’installa à Paris, où il fit carrière.Noterman s’illustra par ses compositions humoristiques représentant des singes vêtus de costumes et occupés à des activités humaines — métiers, jeux, musique, ou plaisirs de société tels que le jeu de dés, la danse ou le tabac.Il réalisa également des tableaux de chiens et de chats, ainsi que des scènes de cirque et des gravures reprenant les mêmes thèmes que ses peintures.Au cours de sa carrière, il participa à plusieurs reprises au Salon de peinture et de sculpture de Paris.Il mourut à Paris en 1890.
