This Japanese tobacco pouch dates from the Meiji period (1868-1912). It is crafted in ray skin and is decorated with a large clasp (kanemono) depicting a coiled dragon. The silver-plated chain is held together by a netsuke. The pouch served as a contemporary fashion accessory of the wealthy.
Articles manufactured before 1 March 1947 and comprising less than 20% ivory by volume, not subject to the EU regulations on the ban on trade in elephant ivory (Orders of 16 August 2016 and 4 May 2017)
