This vibrant mask comes from the Waghi Valley in the Western Highlands of Papoua New Guinea.Made predominantly from pandanus leaves over a rattan frame it is additionally adorned with human hairr, shells, pig tusks, everlasting flowers, bailer shell,archid stems and bird of paradise feathers.It is painted in trade store paint.Masks from the highlands are very rare and this one has been used in a singsing in Mt Hagen in 1992.
