Antoon Overlaet was a draughtsman and engraver in Austrias’ Brabant. In addition to his own compositions, Overlaet worked mainly as masters from the last century. He produced a huge number of drawings that were eagerly sought after in Antwerpen. In 1761 Overlaet was registered as master engraver with the Antwerp Saint-Luke's Guild. We are grateful to Jan de Maere for the attribution of the present painting to Antoon Overlaet. The composition is clearly inspired by David Teniers the Younger.
