Louis Francois Decoeur (Namen 1884 – Namen 1960) was a painter and a wood carver. He worked in and around the area of Brussels and is mainly known for his rural scenes of peasant life. He was inspired by the countryside around the capital. His style belongs to the expressionistic movement and is characterized by very sharp outlines. His synthetic style evolves towards an expressionism which sometimes recalls the work of Brusselmans. An expressionist farmyard scene in the typical style of the artist. Just like many of his other works, Decoeur got inspired by the farmyard life on the outskirts of Brussels. This farmyard family is no exception. A family of five is enjoying a calm Sunday morning on their property. Two men are sitting against a hedge, while a third one is standing in front of them. In the background a woman and a young child are making their way towards the men. The farm covers the horizon of the painting. The work is signed in the bottom right corner.
