Late 19th C. Large Mortar Carved From a Single Piece of Wood.

This Italian mortar dates from the early 19th century. It was used to mill grain and wheat. The object is carved out of a single piece of wood and has a wonderful aged patina. The mortar resembles the foot of an elephant. As well as the shape of the mortar. The wood has splits and carving all over, all the damage is age-related and by using the object for an extended period of time.
